Shaping the world one book at a time. ‘A Catalogue of Words’ encapsulates how Roget’s Thesaurus shaped the world. This is my entry into the ISTD (International Society of Typographic Designers) assessment. Like The Bible and Shakespeare, Roget’s Thesaurus has since shaped the world as a cultural artefact. It is a standard part of every reference library and has sold over 40 million copies. ‘A Catalogue of Words’ is aimed at young adults of today, helping them grasp such an influential, timeless book. It was designed using a list approach which structures the expressive typography throughout the book. This was influenced by word listings used in Roget’s Thesaurus, as well as Roget’s obsessive listing throughout his life.
