Typography - Information hierarchy — Grid structure — Visual systems — Pacing and sequencing — Detailing
"It is amazing what you can create from a typeface. You can get carried away with making a work of art"
University Editorial Design project
Aim: Use the given 19 typefaces plus one chosen one to design an editorial book that demonstrates good use of information hierarchy, pacing, sequencing and visual systems.
Flegrei. A typeface that is more than just a typeface. It is art.
Flegrei was the twentieth typeface that I decided to use in this book. I chose this typeface as I was drawn to its geometric shapes and how it originated from a wooden, letterpress-style typeface. I extracted interesting glyphs from the typeface and made different patterns in the specimen poster. The poster is inserted into the back of the book and can fold out to A3 but also can be torn out and hung up. It has details on the back of the poster of which glyphs and letters I used to make the particular patterns. This serves as a guide so people feel encouraged to make their own patterns out of the typeface. I chose simple colours that were calming but fun, inspired by the font in the image.
